Oh, Ash Wednesday... Can I Give Up Dealing with Reality?

Or... maybe I already have.

I'm in yet another uncomfortable state in life -- like a perpetual metaphysical wedgie. No matter what I do to get rid of it, it always seems to creep back up; and, perhaps, I've gotten to that point where I know I just have to deal with it. However, that doesn't make it any less awkward or relinquish my urge to pick the sucker out.

In the best interest of my readers and potential blogger passer-byes, I'll give you the Reader Digest version of my latest funk. The bottom line:
1)I've hit a major plateau at work and am convinced it's going to take some time to get out of.
2) I realize I spend a LOT of time wasting energy trying to impress and care about people who'd rather wallow in their cynicism and self pity (I totally had to spell check "cynicism").
... and....
3) I'm at the half-way point of my VISTA term, and I'm scared my post-AmeriCorps plans may not go accordingly. Update to follow in a few weeks... I hope it's a good one.

Ugh. I hate when my whiny moods propel my urge to blog! I'm not one of thoooose hipsters!

(OMG. And speaking of hipsters, please check this out: Hipster Puppies. It's my latest go-to on a bad day. Needless to say, I think they've started tracking my IP address for being the most frequent visitor lately....)

I do apologize to the readers who actually do give my blog the time of day (is it happy hour yet?!), but my hiatus was fully unintentional. Aside from adjusting the itchy network of fabric up the butt-crack of life, my "extra-curricular" life outside of work is picking up. In keeping up with my numbered facts of life, here's the latest in life events since my last post:

1) I've taken full advantage of the fitness classes offered through City Hall, and I love learning new exercises while slowly getting to know other ladies around the building (unexpected favorite? Yoga!).

2) I started my Improv classes last week with a fellow VISTA, Kelly, down at Theatre 99 -- now that the awkward "ice-breaker class" is out of the way, I must say I'm totally STOKED for my Thursday nights (bonus? Yoga + Improv on the same day!).

3) I had an amazing Valentine's Day weekend with John. We hardly get to see each other as of late, and nightly conversations have dwindled to 30min Skype broadcasts of the day's events and frustrations. So, obviously, time together is at a premium and appreciated even more. Of course, the weekend kicked off with the lovely snow that blanketed our Friday night and stayed into Saturday (all of which was spent snuggled around the ceramic heater catching up on movies and epsiodes of LOST). Saturday night was topped off with a long dinner at Red Drum Gastropub -- amazing!! After John left and I managed to compose myself, I joined some great lady company in North Charleston for cheesy chic flicks and junk food. Perfect.

4) Amanda and Jay's wedding is coming up in a month, and I couldn't be more excited! They started dating right before John and I did, so it's a long time coming. It's my first time serving as a bridesmaid, and I'm happy that this is as close to being in a wedding as I'll get for a while. I'm secreting good things for them. :)

....and....

5) I spent the last few weekends spending time with friends and family here in Charleston. The Boone Hall Oyster Roast was, well, an experience. And then my Mom and Sister ventured down to celebrate my Mom's b-day... that, too, is something that I'll never forget! Again, instead of spitting out details, you can check out my recent photo album a'la Facebook: Roll-a-Dope.

With that, I know I had much more to say, but I'll leave you all with that big bit to chew on -- I know there's a lot of catch-up. The next few weeks are going to be a whirlwind, so I'm praying I'll get a chance to sit down in between it all... and hopefully by then I'll discover how to keep my big girl panties from chaffing my cheeks. If not, well, at least I'll invest in a sassy new "leopard print" attitude so at least I feel fabulous as I strut awkwardly through my near future.
